Contributor Applications

General Reqs

All Contributors MUST follow the following requirements:
All contributors must have or be willing to make a Discord account.
Previous zine experience is NOT required. You may apply to contribute merchandise, writing, AND illustration, but you will only be chosen for one role. Please keep that in mind!Portfolios featuring Metaphor: ReFantazio works are nice, but NOT required.Contributors will be picked on skill alone.Previous experience, relation to moderators, follower numbers, etc. will not influence whether you are accepted into this project.Bigots, racists, homophobes, etc. will be automatically crossed off our list.Contributors will be assigned a character(s) based on their pitches and will need to clear the inclusion of other characters with a moderator. This is to ensure we don’t have Hulkenberg, for example, in everyone’s piece. We do this to keep track of the character diversity in the zine.Characters will be assigned with the goal of having a diverse cast featured throughout the project.Characters will be assigned based on the quality of pitch delivered to their respective mods (the art moderator or writing moderator for illustration/merchandise and writing respectively). For example, if multiple people want to write for Louis, whoever has the strongest pitch (narrative, idea, sketch, premise for your work) will get him.Show us examples of the style that you plan to use for the zine. We prefer that you submit your best art and/or writing pieces rather than pieces containing Metaphor: ReFantazio. We are deciding strictly based on your skills as an artist!

Role Specific reqs

Page Illustrators
We’re looking for an understanding of anatomy and design principles. Things like composition, color, perspective, hierarchy, and rhythm. The application itself will ask for a medium portfolio 7-15 pieces. This can be provided as a Google Drive folder, or a personal website, etc. This cannot be provided as a link to a social media account. Completed backgrounds are not required; however, we are still looking at your backgrounds and compositions. We’re focused on the overall composition of the piece. That being said, pieces with backgrounds have higher potential as it showcases your detail, setting, perspective, etc.
Traditional art is accepted, but it must be scanned in high quality and at least 300 DPI.
Additionally, you must be able to adjust value/color/etc. in Photoshop or give permission/work with a moderator to do this.

Merchandise IllustratorsWe’re looking for similar things to the illustrators, but in terms of merchandise. If you want to make a charm for the zine, show us what you would create as a charm. If you want to make buttons, show us your button designs. Provide at least 10 designs, but more is welcome in your portfolio. There is no limit on how many images you can include.

Writing
Please submit 3 samples of your work, each between 2k–3.5k words. Samples above 3.5k will not be read; they will be evaluated on characterization, pacing, grammar, wordflow, and ability to tell a complete story within the constraints of the word limit.
Excerpts of longer pieces are allowed as long as ONE sample is a complete story within the range (2k–3.5k).Portfolios are optional and are considered in the event of a tie. They may be provided via a link to your AO3 profile, Google Drive, or other website. It may not be a link to a Tumblr tag or drabbles written as threads on Twitter/X.NSFW pieces will not be read if submitted, including graphic gore and violence. This project is SFW/PG13. While your samples DO NOT need to contain Metaphor: ReFantazio to be considered, it is recommended that at least one features its character(s) in some meaningful way. Show us works similar in style and tone to what you want to write for this project.
